For configuration RD4, the diameter of the reactive stripping section is designed such that the flooding and a substantial pressure drop are avoided. A weir height of 0/1 m is calculated which provides sufficient liquid holdup for reactions and avoid poor hydrodynamic situations. From the simulation results, it was found that entrainment of only 3% of the liquid mass flow rate is realized on each tray. Therefore significantly low entrainment is expected. The tray spacing of 0/2 m is chosen since the stripping section is operated at low superficial velocity. This provides sufficient residence time to the glycol vapor feed for condensation on each stage. Furthermore, the reactive stripping section is operated under the bubbly flow regime which allows operating the column at much lower superficial velocity (0/05–1 m/s). In case of RD3, the diameter and the height of the column, the liquid and vapor flow rate are designed in such a way that weeping, flooding and entrainment are avoided in the column.
